Mini PC

 What Is Mini PC?

Mini PCs: The Mighty Little Computers That Can Do It All

Mini PCs are small, powerful computers that are becoming increasingly popular. They're perfectly suited for people who want a powerful computer, but they don't have enough space or money to run an ordinary desktop computer.

Like a computer, a mini PC has a central processing unit, CPU and memory, which means that it's basically the same as a computer. Where the CPU would execute instruction by fetching it from the memory, using ALU to perform an operation, and then storing the result to memory.

Parts and Features of Mini PC

Mini computers generally have the same parts as a computer, but there are a few differences, so let's take a look at what's in a Mini PC:

1. Processor
  • Performs operation based on data. Mini PCs generally uses (ARM)-based processors as it is small and energy-efficient.
2. Memory
  • Stores data. There are two types of memory: Read-only memory (ROM) and Random-access memory (RAM). ROM cannot be altered, while RAM can be repurposed.
3. Storage
  • Mini PC uses Flash memory to hold information.
4. Operating System
  • Mini PCs can support a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Mac OC, Linux and Chrome OS.
5. Computer Ports
  • Allows connection with other devices such as a monitor, keyboards etc. Depending on the mini PC, it may also have USB or HDMI, RCA-video out, audio jack.
What's missing in a Mini PC:

1. Cooling System
  • Not all mini PCs have cooling systems. This may pose to be an issue since computing generates heat, but you can always add a fan to your mini PC if that’s your concern.
2. Real-Time Clock (RTC)
  • RTC is a timekeeping device that keeps going even after you shut down. However, a mini PC does not have a battery, and since RTC relies on the power from a battery, it is not included due to space constrain as well.
3. Physical Interface
  • There’s no display, keyboards or mouse and thus this is something you have to add on to your purchase, but some mini PCs do support Bluetooth. If not, you can always connect using the USB ports.
Here are some additional things to consider when choosing an operating system for your mini PC:

1. Hardware Compatibility
  • Make sure that the operating system you choose is compatible with the hardware in your mini PC. You can usually find this information on the manufacturer's website.
2. Software Compatibility
  • Make sure that the operating system you choose is compatible with the software you need to use. For example, if you need to use a specific productivity suite or gaming platform, make sure that it is available for the operating system you are considering.
3. Ease of Use
  • Consider how easy to use the operating system is. If you are not a technical person, you may want to choose an operating system that is known for being user-friendly.
