What is Desktop Computer ?

A desktop computer is a personal computer designed to be used in a stationary location. Normally it's composed of an individual monitor, keyboard or mouse that connects to the power supply. The components of desktops are typically higher in power compared with laptops, making them easier to upgrade.

The size of the desktop computer is a major factor that must be taken into account when selecting it. Its overall footprint, portability and cooling ability shall be affected by the size of its desktop.

There are 4 main types of desktop size.

1. Full Tower

Full towers are the largest type of desktop computer. They are typically over 18 inches tall and can accommodate a wide variety of components. Full towers are a good choice for gamers and power users who need a lot of space for their hardware.

Full Tower is used to accommodate an E-ATX or CEB motherboard. It is particularly useful in the case of powerful servers that are capable of using different components for every size of motherboard from expensive to low cost units at one time.

This type of computer case comes with proper size and weight, which usually has better internal cooling. Their prices aren't quite that high, obviously. This is why the entire Tower cases have always been used by enthusiasts, administrators and hardcore streaming gamers.

It's worth it to buy a full tower, only when you need space for too many parts or require large amounts of airflow in cooling powerful processors with Hyperthreading technology as well as bulky RTX and Ti GPUs.

2. Mid Tower

Mid towers are the most common type of desktop computer. They are typically 16-18 inches tall and can accommodate a wide range of components. Mid towers are a good choice for most users who need a balance of performance and space.

Mid tower or ATX is the most common and widely used computer case format, which allows you to use a large number of the drives and almost any type of motherboards with acceptable overall dimensions in it.

There is enough space inside the mid tower case to install complete sized components such as most extensive video cards that are larger than 300 mm, and this case can use 120, 140 or even 200 mm fans for a good cooling effect.

You can build a powerful PC with an air conditioning system using these types of computer cases. It's considered a universal option for users of desktop computers because it allows you to create many different designs, low power office computer, home media center and gaming computer (not a hardcore gamers).

3. Mini Tower

Mini towers are smaller than mid towers and typically 12-16 inches tall. They are a good choice for users who need a compact desktop that takes up less space.

In this type of computer case, you must use the micro ATX motherboard and a low power supply. In general, mini tower computers are dispatched in the most common configuration for back office machines and network terminals.

The Mini Tower chassis is the smallest in size and not very popular among computer assemblers due to the limited volume, which does not allow assembly of a more or less productive computer and low airflow. The choice of accessory types is also limited by the size of the body.

4. Small Form Factor (SFF)

SFF desktops are the smallest type of desktop computer. They are typically 10 inches or less in height and are designed to be as compact as possible. SFF desktops are a good choice for users who need a desktop that can be easily moved or stored.

For those who work or play in tight spaces, SFF cases with the Mini motherboard ITX are perfectly suited. It's especially for the little living rooms and tiny offices. It'll also be much easier to repair and improve this computer than a laptop with the portability feature.
